Renewable Energy Classroom Exploration
Project Summary
46 students at Pineville Elementary engaged with TCI’s Renewable Energy Learning Lab to explore solar and wind power technologies while addressing the challenge of energy intermittency.
Detailed Story
After completing TCI’s Renewable Energy Learning Lab, middle school students at Pineville Elementary gained comprehensive understanding of various renewable energy sources. The project focused on comparing solar PV and wind turbine technologies while introducing the critical concept of energy intermittency. Students participated in a structured lesson that began with an introductory lecture on renewable technologies, followed by group discussions centered around case studies. These discussions allowed students to analyze the pros and cons of each technology in real-world scenarios and address the challenges of intermittent power generation. The project culminated with an exploration of battery storage as a potential solution to intermittency issues, giving students a complete view of renewable energy systems and their implementation challenges
Impact Statement
46 students gained comprehensive understanding of renewable energy technologies with particular focus on solar and wind power systems. Students developed critical thinking skills through case studies examining real-world applications and limitations, with at least one student expressing interest in pursuing a renewable energy career.
