• What if I can’t commit to the full CALP schedule this August?

  We get it, summer schedules can get wild! If you can’t join the live Lila-themed cohort, you can still be a part of the movement! Here is how you can get involved on your own time:

  • The Summer of Community Science (SOCS): Science is hot this summer! Over 500 people have signed up to join the SOCS, where you can contribute real scientific data right from your own neighborhood. It takes as little as 10 minutes to learn more and join!

  • TCI Climate Action Toolkits: Head over to our main resources page to download our free, step-by-step community action guides. You can grab the framework someone like Lila might use to audit local climate issues and build a project completely at your own pace.

  • Join the Community: Sign up for our monthly Ambassador newsletter or follow our youth-led Substack to stay inspired and get notified when our Fall CALP cohort registration opens.

• Is this an official partnership? How did Lila get involved with TCI?

  Yes! This is a 100% official partnership. The team behind Lila Goes Viral wanted to make sure viewers had a direct, trusted pipeline to turn their inspiration from the screen into measurable action in the real world. Because TCI specializes in helping youth design and launch local community action projects, blending Lila’s message with our CALP framework was a natural fit.

• What is the time commitment of CALP?

  The CALP program is four sessions that are about 90 minutes long. TCI will host the program this August. The time commitment given to the action you carry out after the program will be up to you. CALP sessions will be hosted in the evening.

• What kind of action will I be doing?

  Community Partnership Projects

  CALP participants will partner up with a community partner, such as a local grassroots organization or school, or local business to carry out a project together. This can look like

  • Attending a day of action that a community organization is already hosting. Is an organization near you advertising a day for the community to get together and work on a project that is good for the community? 
    • OR helping the organization host an event for the community by reaching out and seeing how they can support the organization through volunteering time
    • OR helping a community organization carry out research for a project they have
  • Reaching out to a local organization and seeing if they would be able to partner with you

  Community Science Research

  

  Help REAL SCIENTISTS with their research! Community Science Research projects (also known as citizen science) is an opportunity for participants to help real research projects that exist in the world!

  These research projects often only require your phone and an app, or logging into a website. Community Science is an excellent and accessible opportunity for participants who want to make a difference but are unsure about their time or resources. You can pick it up and put it down and work at a pace that works for you!

  Grant-Based projects

  At this current time, The Climate Initiative does not offer Grant-Based Projects for CALP. However, organizations can use CALP to help with their own grants, and individuals can use CALP to develop an action plan to submit grant proposals 

• I am looking to get certificates, will I get a Certificate of Completion once I complete the CALP program?

  You will receive a Certificate of Completion after you complete BOTH the entire CALP program AND the accompanying action project that you design. Completing the action project is required to receive the certificate of completion. Attendance of the four sessions alone will not result in receiving the certificate of completion.

• What is expected of CALP participants?

  • Attending all four sessions and participating in them. CALP is an engaging program that allows participants to be in conversation with the host, as opposed to the host talked at the participants the whole time. 
  • Completing the accompanying worksheets. CALP has accompanying worksheets to help participants come up with their action projects. The final session, session four, we ask that the worksheet be shared with us so that we can keep track of the ideas that CALP participants have and build up a cache of climate ideas to share with future CALPers to draw inspiration from. 
  • Completing the action projects- they are self-designed as self-led, we encourage you to pick something you will enjoy doing and look forward to completing! 
  • Sharing your story and your impact. We have an existing action map! This map is where we will add your stories and impact for everyone to see. Inspire other future climate action leaders through your actions today!
