Green Economy Training for Nigerian Youth Corps Members
Project Summary
50 National Youth Service Corps members in Edo state were trained on sustainable environmental practices and green economy opportunities to promote both environmental stewardship and post-service career pathways.
Detailed Story
The POP Nigeria Initiative conducted a comprehensive training program focused on empowering National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members with knowledge about climate change and sustainable practices. The project aimed to enlighten Corps Members on the need for sustainable environmental practices and transition into green economy sectors, which could serve as means of job creation and livelihood after their service year, while also promoting green and clean environment initiatives in Edo state. Through the program, corps members were educated on climate change impacts, mitigation strategies, and sustainable career opportunities. The initiative’s broader vision centers on educating both young and old Nigerians on climate issues and developing youth as climate actors, leaders, and advocates in communities across Nigeria and Africa. POP Nigeria leverages climate education to promote sustainable environmental practices and livelihoods, while advocating for low carbon options and responsible production by companies and industries through advocacy, dialogue, campaigns, and meaningful stakeholder engagement.
