Students dove deep into Kansas’s water systems through TCI’s STEM-based modules, starting with a discovery that reframed how they saw their own state’s landscape: the majority of ponds, lakes, and reservoirs in Kansas are not natural, but constructed by humans. That realization opened up a broader discussion about why these bodies of water were built in the first place, and what role they play in managing a resource as essential as water.
As Mitchelle explains, her broader approach to STEM education is focused on using math and science to tackle real-world challenges through applied, project-based learning that helps students see the direct relevance of their schoolwork to their own lives and the world around them.
