Climate Literacy and Actions Through Engagements and Data Analysis
Project Summary
A comprehensive climate literacy program at FCE(T) Potiskum in Nigeria engaged 350 high school students in understanding and addressing climate change with a focus on renewable energy through interactive activities, data analysis, leadership development, and community action projects.
Detailed Story
This project aims to enhance climate literacy among high school students by actively engaging them in understanding and addressing climate change, with a particular focus on renewable energy. Through a combination of interactive activities, data analysis, and leadership development, the program seeks to empower students to become informed and proactive environmental advocates. The program goals include increasing awareness and understanding of climate change and renewable energy among high school students, fostering critical thinking and data literacy related to climate issues, inspiring students to take actionable steps toward sustainable energy solutions, and developing leadership skills through participation in the Climate Actions Leadership Program. Activities included participation in the Climate Actions Leadership Program which provides educational resources and training on climate issues, engagement in data collection and analysis projects related to renewable energy sources and their impact, interactive workshops and discussions to deepen understanding of climate science and renewable energy technologies, development of individual or group action projects aimed at promoting renewable energy initiatives within their communities, and sharing of findings and actions through presentations or community outreach to raise awareness. Over 350 high school students actively completed action projects focused on renewable energy, showing remarkable growth in their understanding of renewable energy and climate science, often sharing newfound insights with peers and family. Several student-led initiatives resulted in tangible community benefits, such as renewable energy awareness campaigns and school-based energy conservation efforts. The Climate Actions Leadership Program effectively equipped students with leadership skills, enabling them to advocate confidently for sustainable practices. The project created a student-led climate action network that continues to promote renewable energy awareness in local communities and received positive feedback from teachers and community members about the increased climate consciousness among students.
