LetsRideKids: Mobile Carpooling App for Sustainable Student Transportation

Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Project Summary

Two students from Brophy College Preparatory developed LetsRideKids, a mobile carpooling app that connects families to form sustainable community-powered travel networks for transporting kids to school and extracurricular activities, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality through shared transportation.

Detailed Story

The project developed a mobile carpooling app called LetsRideKids that connects families to form a sustainable, community powered travel network to transport kids to school and extracurricular activities. The goal is to have shared transportation so they can reduce carbon emissions and thus improve air quality and protect the environment. The team partnered with schools, community centers, colleges, Boys and Girls clubs and YMCAs throughout Phoenix to provide free use of their app LetsRideKids to encourage carpooling. The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store with more information available on their website LetsRideKids.com. The team worked hard to spread the word in their local community to use LetsRideKids to form and find carpools. They received significant media coverage which led to having a significant user base that has generated over 750 shared rides thus far. The project received extensive media attention including features in multiple publications and video coverage showcasing the positive community response. The initiative demonstrates how slight changes in attitude can create large environmental impacts, with the creators expressing hope that people will continue to embrace the idea of working together to help the environment and stop the negatives of climate change.
