Welcome to the Summer 2024 LEAF Fellowship Crew! We’re excited to introduce you to an incredible team committed to making a positive impact on the climate movement. Each fellow brings unique skills and passions to the table, united by a common goal: empowering youth voices for climate action. Meet Kera Daughtery, our Communications Fellow, who excels in storytelling and media, and Sophia Boyd, our Youth Engagement Fellow, who is passionate about inspiring and mobilizing young people. Learn more about Kera Daughtery

As a recent graduate from Texas State University with a major in Electronic Media and Mass Communication and a minor in Women and Gender Studies, Kera Daughtery brings a diverse skill set and a passion for sustainability to her role as the Communications Fellow at The Climate Initiative. With professional experience spanning higher education, non-profits, and e-commerce, she has honed her skills in content creation, marketing strategy, and event planning and management, all of which she is eager to leverage to enhance TCI’s communication strategy and foster meaningful relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

Kera’s proudest accomplishment in the past year has been completing her undergraduate honors thesis entitled Sustainable Synergy: A Human-Centered Design Approach to Intuitive Sustainable Engagement at Texas State University. Currently eyeing a master’s in sustainability studies, she envisions a future career as a sustainability coordinator in higher education or working in communications and marketing for a sustainable brand or nonprofit organization.

Outside of work, Kera enjoys curating playlists, experimenting with new recipes, and indulging in her love for swimming in the river!

Learn more about Sophia Boyd

Sophia Boyd is a rising senior at Spelman College, where she is earning a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with minors in International Studies and Environmental Health. She has served as an AUC Clean Energy Fellow and Girl + Environment Energy Justice Ambassador, and believes that everyone should be a climate advocate, especially her young adult peers.

Post-grad, she plans to pursue environmental and electrical engineering with aspirations to innovate the clean energy industry. She believes greening the energy sector and wide-spread education on environmental science and human-induced climate change are the keys to a truly sustainable, equitable future for all.

Outside of TCI, she loves playing volleyball, learning languages with aspirations of polyglotry, and adrenaline-rush activities like zip-lining. She is overjoyed to join this cohort of amazing fellow climate advocates, and is looking forward to learning and producing work to help as many people as possible fight climate change.
