The Climate Initiative is proud to offer our “Train-the-trainer” program. Where we teach YOU how to host CALP in your community.

Why host CALP in your community?
Because you’ll be educating and empowering people to take meaningful climate action, making action accessible, engaging, and relevant to the unique needs of your community.

CALP is best hosted in person!

As a fully interactive program, participants aren’t spoken at, but instead invited throughout every session to share their thoughts, observations, experiences, and questions about climate change. While CALP can be hosted virtually if needed, the real magic happens when participants are together, learning and engaging face-to-face.

Hosting CALP also creates opportunities for communities to build new partnerships, or strengthen existing ones, while working toward shared climate goals.

FAQs

The train-the-trainer program is three virtual sessions that are about 90 minutes long. After attending the train-the-trainer program, you will work on the logistics of carrying out the CALP program.

Carrying out the CALP program includes
- Finding a place to host, in person or virtually.
- Acquiring Attendees
- Developing parameters for the project to be carried out. Some structure- what will the projects be about? What type of project will students participate in?
- What resources are needed to carry out the project? Weblinks, databases, materials, partnerships, tools, etc.
- A place to host
  - We highly recommend hosting CALP in person; however, we understand there may be challenges, so hosting virtually is also an option.
- Parameters for action projects
  - Piloted versions of CALP showed significantly better results when participants had parameters to work within. These parameters do not need to be difficult or restrictive.
    - For organizations that have a unique mission, the projects can fall under the umbrella of your mission
    - For communities that face unique climate challenges, the projects can call under the umbrella of the challenges that are unique to your community
    - For educators who have specialty knowledge in a specific field, the projects can fall under the umbrella of that knowledge.
- Potentially- community partners
  - If you need a place to host, or infrastructure to help support your projects, consider tapping into local community partnerships that can support the cause.

The sessions themselves are not hard to carry out at all! If you have ever done a presentation, you can host CALP. Supporting climate action may feel overwhelming in the beginning of your journey, but the train-the-trainer program is designed to help simplify the process. We encourage you to pick project themes that are within your wheelhouse of knowledge, comfort and connections. Especially for your first time.
