The Climate Initiative (TCI) hosted the Gulf-wide Climate Educator’s Retreat from June 9th-11th, 2023! Our hosted location was the beautiful and historic University of New Orleans! The Climate Educators Retreat was an interactive, professional development opportunity aimed at supporting high school and middle school educators to incorporate climate education within their curriculum.
This retreat built skills in place-based education, action projects, and ways to engage the community in meaningful conversations. Participants learned practical ways to educate, empower, and inspire students and community members to take action to adapt or mitigate climate change.
Throughout the three-day retreat, educators from the Gulf South built their climate knowledge with experts, networked with colleagues, had supported time to develop implementable projects/curricula, and learned from experiential, hands-on activities. Registration included delicious lunches and snacks, restorative time for reflection, a guided historical tour, and materials. We offered a supportive experience that revitalized hope for a just climate future in the Gulf South.
