Welcome Potential Stipend Educators!
Meet the Climate Justice & Equity Stipend Cohort Lead: Nyla McFadden nyla@theclimateinitiative.org | TCI Assistant Director of Programs & Education Lead
We cannot look at climate solutions without understanding the intersection of climate change with social justice and equity. While everyone will eventually be affected by climate change, the IPCC notes, “Impacts of climate change are like to be felt most acutely not only by the poor, but also by certain segments of the population, such as the elderly, the very young, the powerless, indigenous peoples, and recent immigrants, particularly if they are linguistically isolated.”
To that end, TCI looked to partner with key leaders in social justice, like Kristy Drutman @BrownGirlGreen in the below video, to design this Climate Justice and Equity (CJE) Learning Lab. This Learning Lab was created because we know that integrating climate topics and social justice topics aren’t always the easiest, and we know that as teachers, your plates are full. We hope that this six week/modifiable curriculum will help address these challenging topics to empower your students not only to understand the intersection of social justice and equity with climate change but also to know how to take action.
By taking part in this stipend cohort opportunity for the Fall-Winter 2023/2024 semester, sponsored by Tom’s of Maine, you commit to providing TCI real-time feedback, the successes and challenges of utilizing this programming into your classroom and ideas on how to make this Learning Lab even better! While our Learning Lab modules have been incorporated in all 50 states, 15 countries and are educating over 70,000 students, our Climate Justice & Equity Learning Lab is one of our newest offerings and our goal for this program is simple: get the CJE Learning into more classrooms across the country.
Let our classroom curriculum and resources help inform yours. We’re here to support you as you learn the TCI method, review our lesson plans, and start to integrate these activities and modules into your school year. Reach out to us if you need guidance; we are happy to help. We also know that we don’t know it all! If you have a fantastic idea you would like to share; we welcome your ideas! We are all here for the same reason; to educate, empower, and activate our students.
But enough from us, hear more from Kristy, one of the CJE creators, below!
